Japan's First Color Television Set
Our company started the fundamental research of color television in 1950.
In 1957 we introduced Japan's first prototype of a 21in color television set.
At the time, more than ten parts including picture tubes were imported from the United States; however, while we conducted further R&D, those parts began being produced domestically one by one.
In 1959, we finished developing completely Japanese-made color television sets using a 17in square-shape picture tube and exhibited them at the International Trade Fair.
In 1960 broadcasting in color started, and we mass-produced both a 17in model for home use and a luxurious 21in model for business use.
