Breguet Dial Telegraph(Replica)
Breguet Dial Telegraph(Replica)

Hisashige Tanaka who came up to Tokyo in 1873, started producing telegraphs.

This is a Breguet dial telegraph used in 1869, initiating the telegraph communication age.
The horizontal device on the right is a transmitter, and the vertical one on the left is a receiver.
The one in the middle is an electric bell which rings upon message reception.
When you turn the handlebar of the transmitter to point a letter on the disk with the bar, the hand of the receiver also points to the same letter as the transmitter's bar points.
As you can see, the Breguet dial telegraph doesn't need cord tables for letters and numbers like the Morse telegraph; therefore, it is easier for people to read telegraphic messages with a Breguet dial telegraph.
However, it had a slower transmission speed and couldn't do long distance transmissions.
That is why the Morse telegraph soon became the mainstream in the telegraphic field.
