Japan's First Electric Train
During the 3rd National Industrial Fair of 1890 in Ueno Park, Tokyo, Dr. Fujioka carried out an exhibition-run of a streetcar he had imported from the J.G.Brill and Company of America and redesigned it himself to operate on a single-line overhead system.
This became the first electric train to run in Japan and for this it received the highest recognition at the fair.
From then, the streetcar became a symbol of civilization and gradually replaced horce-drawn locomotives which had been the main means of transport.
