Japan's First Commercial-use Microwave Oven

Our company started developmental research of the microwave oven in 1956.

We completed Japan's first microwave oven in 1959.
The following year, we exhibited it at the Osaka International Trade Fair, and it drew huge public attention.
Then the first microwave oven was put on the market in 1961, and it was the debut of the general-purpose microwave.
In 1962 Toshiba's microwave ovens were used in dining cars by Japanese National Railways (present-day Japan Railways (JR)).
Since the Shinkansen (bullet trains) began service in 1964, our microwave ovens have continued providing hot authentic dishes to the passengers in Buffets (Shinkansen dining cars).
