Our History

Toshiba Science Museum opened in 1961 as a part of the Central Research Laboratory, commemorating Toshiba's 85th anniversary. It has been popular as a site for local cultural events as well as a perfect facility to learn about science technologies.

1961 November Toshiba Science Museum opens.

1970   Various guests from abroad pay a visit.  
1971 March Prince Hiro (the current crown prince) pays a class visit.  
1977 February The total number of visitors reaches three million. The total number of visitors reaches three million
  June "Fostering a close relationship between man and science" is adopted as the museum's slogan.
On the 15th anniversary a bamboo tree is planted honoring Thomas Edison.

1989 May Selected by MITI into the group of 50 main domestic industries.
An exhibition marking the 30th anniversary is held.

  September First word processing and computer class.

2005 September Toshiba's First of their Kind magazine is published.

2013 September Toshiba Science Museum closed.  
2014 Jenuary Toshiba Science Museum opens.
